How to Change Your Windows Hello PIN

Replace the PIN used to sign in to a Windows device.

Quick Answer

Open Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options → PIN (Windows Hello) and choose Change PIN.

Step by Step

  1. Save any open work before making changes that could close programs or restart Windows.
  2. Open Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options → PIN (Windows Hello) and choose Change PIN.
  3. Test the result before making additional changes.
  4. If the problem remains, note any exact error message before restarting or changing more settings.

If That Doesn't Work

  • Windows menus can vary slightly by edition and update level.
  • Avoid registry edits, third-party cleanup utilities, or disabling security features for ordinary troubleshooting unless there is a specific verified reason.
