How to Map a Network Drive in Windows 11

Give a shared network folder its own drive letter in File Explorer.

Quick Answer

Open File Explorer → This PC → Map network drive, choose a drive letter, and enter the network path such as \\server\share.

Step by Step

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC.
  3. Choose Map network drive from the toolbar or menu.
  4. Choose a drive letter.
  5. Enter the shared-folder path, such as \\192.168.1.10\Shared or \\SERVER\Shared.
  6. Choose Reconnect at sign-in if you want Windows to restore it automatically.
  7. Select Finish and enter network credentials if prompted.

If That Doesn't Work

  • The shared folder must already exist and your account must have permission to access it.
  • If Windows cannot find the share, test the server name or IP address in File Explorer first.
  • Stored credentials can affect which account Windows uses for the connection.
