How to Stop File Explorer from Showing Recent Files in Quick Access

Hide recent and frequently used items from File Explorer Home/Quick access.

Quick Answer

Open File Explorer Options and turn off the recent/frequent item options under Privacy.

Step by Step

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Open the three-dot menu and choose Options.
  3. Under Privacy, turn off options that show recently used files and frequently used folders.
  4. Select Clear if you want to remove the current history.
  5. Select Apply and OK.

If That Doesn't Work

  • Pinned folders remain until you unpin them manually.
  • Windows wording may refer to Home instead of Quick access depending on the build.
