Select the file or folder and press F2, or right-click it and choose Rename.

- Press F2 or right-click and choose Rename.
- Type the new name.
- Press Enter.
If That Doesn't Work
- If file extensions are visible, be careful not to remove or change the extension unless you intend to change the file type association.
- Windows will not allow certain characters in filenames, including \ / : * ? " < > |.
