Open the connected network's properties and select Public network or Private network.
Step by Step
- Open Settings.
- Select Network & internet.
- Open Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then the active connection's properties.
- Find Network profile type.
- Choose Public for untrusted/shared networks or Private for a trusted home/work network where device discovery may be needed.
If That Doesn't Work
- Private does not mean the internet connection itself is encrypted or private.
- Use Public on networks such as hotels, airports, and coffee shops unless you have a specific reason not to.
