Test several devices, restart the networking equipment, then compare Wi-Fi performance with a wired connection if possible.
Step by Step
- Test more than one device.
- Check whether a large download, backup, streaming session, or update is using the connection.
- Restart the modem/router normally.
- Test near the router.
- If possible, connect a computer by Ethernet and compare performance.
- Check the provider's service/outage status.
- If wired speed is good but Wi-Fi is poor, focus on wireless coverage/interference.
If That Doesn't Work
- Internet speed and Wi-Fi link speed are different things.
- Do not factory-reset the router as the first troubleshooting step.
